Growing the HoneyCure Family

Written by Sean Carroll, Co-Founder

This holiday season we’d like to take a step back and look at what’s happening in the HoneyCure family. The holiday season is, after all, a time when we take a break from our busy schedules and make some wonderful memories with our families.

This year has certainly been one where we’ve sorely needed that break. The HoneyCure team, like many, has seen a lot of changes, and has certainly experienced the difficulties this year has brought.

However, we’ve also seen some great progress and have some great news heading into the new year. But let’s focus on some more wholesome topics.

I adopted a kitten this year. Her name is Cara (think Star Wars Cara Dune), and she is a busy 6 lb. Calico.

Cara was a rescue kitten, from the Animal Welfare Society of Michigan in Madison Heights, MI. The staff there was great; Cara was in excellent health when she came home. She was surrendered to the rescue for reasons personal to the original family. I can’t see why; Cara is a healthy, friendly, and very active 5-month-old kitten (On second thought, her unbound energy might just be why…)

This year has become a great year to adopt a kitten. One of my reasons for holding out on getting a pet was with my busy work schedule; it was always smarter to hijack my parents’ pets for some much needed cat or dog time and not subject a young one to the long work days I had in 2019. This year we’ve done a lot of working from home, so I’m stuck inside a lot. That coupled with less travel has really opened the possibility of doing some great house training with a young cat.

Cara was the natural choice at the rescue. She pretty much adopted me, and from the moment I held her she was very friendly and relaxed. As soon as she arrived home, she moved in and got very comfortable. She scoped out the nooks and crannies, and then started to play. And later that evening made herself a nice little bed on the couch next to me.

Since then, she’s proven to have that kitten crazy energy, and our days start at 5am. After she makes sure I get up on time, she waits for me to get ready, and then we have a mandatory play session. Now that she’s been home a bit more than a month, she does misbehave a bit while I try to work. But she’s not a bad cat, just curious and testing. I couldn’t have asked for a better kitten.

You’ll likely be seeing quite a bit of her. While I chose her for her friendliness towards me and her great disposition, she’s got a fierce personality and is very outgoing. It’s hard to leave her out of what I do, as she frequently says ‘hi’ during video meetings. My father says she lives up to her Calico standards, as he’s always remarked that our family’s history of Calicos has shown they are tough feline companions that almost act like dogs.

So now as we ring in the New Year, Cara has joined the family with great enthusiasm. She’s met with a lot of love, and perhaps some surprise at how readily she meows a ‘hello’ and demands play time. Regardless, she brings a smile to our faces and has very possibly won the “kitty jackpot” as her veterinarian has termed it.
