Ancient Honey and Natural Egyptian Treatments
Honey has been used as a treatment for many ailments and conditions since ancient times. Some of the oldest and most extensive records in Egypt date back to 2400 BCE and are found in Ra’s Sun Temple in Cairo. Honey was highly sacred for ancient Egyptians and had many uses. Pharaohs even believed that honeybees were related to the Sun God Ra. Honey and bees were revered so highly by the pharaohs that they would bury clay jars of honey in the tombs of the royals.
King Tutankhamun (King Tut)’s Honey
Did you know that some of the oldest honey in the world was found in the one and only King Tut’s Tomb? This honey is over 3000 years old! Believe it or not, the honey found in his highness’ tomb is still edible as well! (Not that anyone should try to eat it, since it is so old!) Honey is unique as it “preserves” itself. But how does it do that? The answer is simple: honey is acidic and lacks moisture. These two qualities prevent bacteria from growing and surviving in the honey pots! There are many varieties of honey that depend on these qualities and more in varying ways.
A (not so) Sweet Egyptian Treatment
Ramy, one of the creators of HoneyCure, was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt. He knew honey to be a common household treatment, and this influenced the use of raw honey in HoneyCure’s formula.
Egyptians use many natural treatments, and raw honey is widely used in the treatment of many external and some internal conditions. Ramy’s parents would apply “white honey” (slang term in Egypt for bee honey) to cuts, burns, or scrapes when he was growing up. And if he had a bad cough, cold, or flu virus, they would give him raw “black honey” (slang term for mountain tree honey). This practice of honey for coughs is becoming common even in the West!
Naturally Egyptian
There are more natural treatments in Egypt used just like honey. In Upper Egypt, where the Ancient Egyptian civilization flourished, many modern Egyptians still use the ways of the Pharaohs! Natural herbs and fruit derivatives, like cumin and pomegranate shell are used for treating symptoms of IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). A common remedy for baldness is garlic and olive oil. For foot or joint pains, they warm olive oil and massage the area. Guava leaf tea is recommended for a bronchitis cough. Headaches are cured with lemon peels. And there are so many more magnificent treatments and remedies.
With such a unique cultural inspiration, you can see why HoneyCure has such a strong natural influence. Ramy and Sean took this inspiration and built on it, using medical studies and rigorous testing to select raw manuka honey and our other quality ingredients to make HoneyCure the right choice to treat your pets. You could even say we treat them like pharaohs!
